The Drawer, the Drives & the Digital Clutter

Carrington Dennis Carrington Dennis

Hi, I’m Carrington.

For years, three hard drives sat in a drawer. 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and bigger ones after that.

On them: college work, old jobs, personal documents. Photos, music, movies, downloads. Sensitive files. Notes I’ve kept since 2013. Projects I’d forgotten I made.

Folders called DCIM_0042, New Folder (3) and final_final_2. The same file, four times, in four different places.

It looked like a mess. But the mess wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that I didn’t know what I could safely touch.

I wanted to back everything up. I just didn’t know how much of it was already duplicated, and I didn’t want to fill another drive with copies of copies.

Meanwhile, a few files probably existed in only one place. One dying drive could take something I’d kept for fifteen years.

So I left it alone.

That felt like being careful. It was really just me procrastinating.

SupaDupa is built for the other kind of careful.

It shows you what it finds, and you decide what happens next. Renames and moves can be reviewed and undone. Duplicates go to the Trash on your Mac instead of being deleted for good. Nothing gets uploaded. Nothing gets imported into yet another library you’ll have to look after.

Careful doesn’t mean ignoring the clutter. It means dealing with it directly, with a tool built for the problem.

What SupaDupa doesn’t do

SupaDupa is not a backup service.

It helps you understand and clean up what’s already on your Mac and drives. It does not upload your files, sync them to the cloud, or keep another copy for you.

Use it before a backup to figure out what you have, what’s duplicated, and what’s worth keeping. Then back up your files with the tool you already trust.

SupaDupa also is not trying to replace Photos, Dropbox, Google Drive, or a shared work archive.

The smart stuff stays on your Mac

SupaDupa can look beyond filenames to help you understand what’s actually in your files.

It can recognize what’s in photos and screenshots, make them easier to search, and suggest clearer names for folders based on what they contain.

All of that happens on your Mac. Your files are never uploaded for AI processing.

Folder naming uses a separate 2.5 GB model that you download once. If you no longer want it, you can remove it anytime in Settings.

What does it actually look at?

Only the details SupaDupa has already gathered on your Mac, like file types, dates, photo tags, camera info, and small pieces of extracted text.

It does not need your folder path or even the folder’s current name.

What SupaDupa sends

SupaDupa does connect to the internet for a few things, but your files stay out of it.

It can send anonymous usage stats and crash reports to help me understand what’s working and fix problems. You can turn both off in Settings.

The free version also sends an anonymous device ID (a one-way scramble of your Mac’s hardware ID), the app version, and basic Mac details so I can tell how many people are actually using it. This one stays on even with usage stats turned off. If you want your Mac left out, email me and I’ll exclude it.

None of this includes your email, license key, file names, folder paths, or file contents.

The Privacy Policy lists exactly what SupaDupa sends.

If the app ever sends something that is not listed there, I want to know.

What you need

SupaDupa works on macOS 13 Ventura or newer, on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

You can scan drives, search files, find duplicates, browse media, and organize by date or file type on either.

Some of the on-device AI features need an Apple Silicon Mac with at least 16 GB of memory. If your Mac does not support them, SupaDupa simply leaves those features off. Everything else still works.
